WILDFIRE WEEK.

Inspiring community awareness and action around wildfire preparedness.

THE WHAT.

Revelstoke’s first annual Wildfire Week brought together over 300 participants across seven events for a week of learning, action, and connection. From clean-up efforts and hands-on workshops to expert panels and a guided nature walk, the event offered a promising start in building community awareness and engagement around wildfire preparedness.

THE WHY.

This campaign is part of Tourism Revelstoke’s goal to foster regenerative tourism. We want to develop campaigns that support our visitor economy, preserve our natural spaces and benefit our local community.

THE STATS.

With the combined support of all our sponsors, along with 19 visitor volunteers who came to our community to lend a hand, 9 homes were FireSmart’ed by our teams, 58 homes utilized our neighbourhood bins, and 55 air purifiers were built, providing residents with access to clean air in their homes during the smokey season. Over 120 people attended the panel event to hear from fire experts across the region.

8.9 tonnes of materials were removed from 9 neighborhoods throughout Revelstoke.

Visitor Volunteers stayed at 11 different accommodations with a 2.3-day length of stay, with 100% booking direct. Visitors spent an additional 4k in the destination while visiting.

“My family got out on the Saturday while I was volunteering (Railway Museum, hiking), then we got to enjoy the rest of our time together. We did a little downtown shopping, stopped at Rumpus, and then hit the Enchanted Forest and Sky Trek on our way home on Sunday. Needless to say, we're obsessed with Revy!”

“The volunteering event was delightful! It was great to learn about wildfires and the program itself, and see so many happy faces come to dump their natural waste. The breakfast and lunch were so delicious I made sure to ask where they were bought from, and planned a visit to them with my friends once I was done with my volunteering shift. Overall, a wonderful experience! I can't wait to do it again next year.”
