ANNUAL REPORT

Our annual report outlines the activities undertaken by Tourism Revelstoke. This report is prepared in alignment with MRDT requirements and is submitted to the province each May, to report on the outcomes of the corresponding annual tactical plan.

VALUE OF TOURISM.

In 2021, Tourism Revelstoke undertook a value of tourism study for the year 2019 with support from Destination BC. The study considers the overall economic impact of toruism in Revelstoke.

MRDT & OAP.

MDRT: Municipal & Regional District Tax
OAP: Online Accommodation Platform

The MRDT is an up-to three percent tax applied to sales of short-term accommodation provided in participating areas of British Columbia on behalf of municipalities, regional districts and eligible entities.

The MRDT is jointly administered by Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Destination BC.

MRDT that is collected by online accommodation platforms such as Airbnb is known as the OAP. It is at the discretion of the designated recipient of the tax to use these funds as general MRDT revenues or to set the OAP aside for affordable housing programs and projects. Revelstoke has opted to create a fund for affordable housing from the OAP.

DATA DASHBOARD.

The public now has access to key community economic development data through the community economic development dashboard, an interactive, online information management tool used to track, analyze, and display relevant community metrics and data points.

TELUS INSIGHTS.

The City of Revelstoke and Tourism Revelstoke have contracted Telus to provide data about visitation based on cell phone pings. These reports provide information about the number of unique visitors to Revelstoke and their movements within the local area.

The Revelstoke Visitor Information Centre and the Chamber of Commerce record the number of visitors they receive as well as their place of origin, length of visit, and what they plan to do in town.

VISITOR SURVEY.

The Visitor Experience Department of the Chamber of Commerce runs annual surveys on visitors' challenges and thoughts on their experiences in Revelstoke. They take note of suggestions to improve the Revelstoke experience, and also calculate a Net promoter score for the destination. Net promoter score (NPS) is a widely used market research metric that typically takes the form of a single survey question asking respondents to rate the likelihood that they would recommend a company, product, or a service to a friend or colleague.
